Bio-enzymatic cleaners are cleaning products that use non-pathogenic, “good” bacteria to digest wastes, soils, stains and stinks. Enzymes are macromolecular biological catalysts that speed up chemical reactions. Essentially, different enzymes break down different types of stains: lipolases work on fats or oil-based stains, proteases break down protein-based stains, and amylases tackle carbohydrates and starches.
The bacteria in the cleaners produce enzymes are specifically designed to break down certain waste and dirt molecules into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces become food for the bacteria and get broken down into two basic compounds: carbon dioxide and water.
