Buyer’s Guide to Choosing Satchel Paper Bags
Satchel paper bags are a versatile packaging option for bakeries, cafés, takeaway shops, food retailers and other hospitality businesses. Their gusseted design provides more room than a standard flat paper bag, making them suitable for thicker or bulkier food items.
Insinc’s range includes standard brown paper satchels, grease-resistant and greaseproof food bags, printed takeaway satchels and clear satchel bags from Fortune and Detpak.
Standard, Greaseproof or Grease-Resistant Satchels?
Standard paper satchels, such as the Fortune No.1 and No.2 bags and Detpak No.4 brown satchel, suit general packaging where additional grease resistance is not required.
For oily or greasy foods, Detpak offers one-ply grease-resistant and two-ply greaseproof satchel bags in multiple sizes. Purpose-specific printed options are also available for burgers, hot chips and hot dogs.
Choose the bag according to the type of food being packed and check the individual product specifications when packaging particularly hot, oily or moist foods.
Which Satchel Bag Size Should You Choose?
Smaller satchels suit compact takeaway items and snacks, while larger bags provide additional room for sandwiches, burgers, bakery products and other food portions. Sizes in the current range extend from approximately 160 x 92 x 34mm to 300 x 125 x 55mm.
Clear Detpak satchels are also available in No.4 through No.7 sizes where product visibility is preferred.
Bag numbering varies between products and manufacturers, so always compare the actual dimensions and gusset size before ordering. Several Castaway products and the Emperor No.6 satchel are no longer available, so current Fortune and Detpak products provide alternative options.
