EcobagsNZ was started in 2007 by Jas and Simren, a husband and wife team looking to make a difference. They’d grown tired of the waste created by plastic bags and business marketing collateral, and decided that there needed to be a better way. They were determined to fill the gap for reusable, sustainable bags in the business branding market, and help businesses promote themselves in a greener, more eco-friendly way. And so EcobagsNZ was born. From these humble beginnings we’ve established a green niche in an otherwise uncaring market, and supported by a close-knit team of like-minded, passionate people, deliver the best quality reusable and organic products to our customers.
Ecopack’s range of 100% Compostable, plastic free and biodegradable bags and bin liners are an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic bags. They are a more sustainable packaging choice and are specifically designed to be sustainable from start to finish.
Our compostable bags are made from a natural starch corn starch and the printing is done with water based eco-friendly inks—a true alternative to the traditional oil-based plastics that can take up to 1000 years to break down, if at all. Fully certified to meet international standards for both home and commercial composting.
Ecopack’s Compostable Bags begin to decompose in a compost pile taking approximately 90 days to break down (depending on compost conditions such as temperature) leaving no harmful residues in the process. This eliminates the impact of many tons of plastic bags sitting in our landfills for thousands of years or ending up in our oceans negatively impacting our marine life.
With more and more people making the effort to live greener lives and be more planet-conscious, consumer demand is driving the need to provide recyclable, degradable, and compostable options for any situation.
What are Degradable bags?
Not all degradable products are created equal, and many suppliers claim that their product is biodegradable when they’re actually not.
Our degradable bags are made from polyethylene, they are still a petroleum-based plastic bag but contain a degradable additive known as TDPA (totally degradable plastic additives) manufactured by a company called EPI. This helps the bags break down into smaller particles when exposed to sunlight, heat and oxygen.
Secondly, these smaller oxidized molecules are biodegraded and converted into carbon dioxide, water and biomass, by microorganisms. The rate at which this happens for conventional plastics is very slow, taking decades or even centuries. EPI’s TDPA® additives are catalysts that accelerate this reaction so that it occurs over a few months to a couple of years.

If more dog owners started using Earthrated Dog Poop Bags, it would eliminate the need for the countless plastic bags dog owners go through each year.
While you’ll still be doing a lot for the environment throwing our Earthrated Compostable bags in regular bins, they can also be composted. We recommend taking them to your nearest composting facility. This will make your use of these eco-friendly products that much greener.
However, even if your used Earthrated Dog Poop Bags ultimately wind up at a landfill site, they’ll still degrade/compost in a much shorter space of time, compared to the conventional bags that can remain for centuries. While composting isn’t practical for everyone, disposing of these dog waste bags in regular bins won’t undermine how effective they are for protecting the environment.
